The real marketing value is boosting the likelihood that shoppers will add more products to cart as they aren’t delivered to the checkout screen immediately after adding items to their cart.

For usability and shopper experience purposes, the mini cart signals that items have been added to cart and give the opportunity to ‘view cart’ it the shopper does in fact want to proceed with a checkout.
